Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs 2|3|13

Below is a look into worship at Burton last Sunday, including a sample of lyrics of songs we sung.  Our Pastor preached on the richness of the gospel observed at the Hebrews escaped through the Red Sea.

Prelude Ken Miller

Announcements by Pastor Kevin

Call to Worship  “O Worship the King”  led by Laura Snow and Zach Johnson.  This song was written in 1853 by Robert Grant.

O tell of His might, O sing of His grace,

Whose robe is the light, whose canopy space,

His chariots of wrath the deep thunderclouds form,

And dark is His path on the wings of the storm.

Scripture Reading and Prayer by Carlos Ramirez Leon  John 5:18-24

Fellowship Time as we greet one another in the name of the Lord.

“Bless the Lord, O My Soul  by the Joseph Weaver, Kaitlin Hassel, and this Sunday’s band Ryan Martin (drums), Ashley Greuter (cello), Chris Carter (guitar)

You’re rich in love and You’re slow to anger

Your name is great and Your heart is kind

For all Your goodness I will keep on singing

10,000 reasons for my heart to find

Bless the Lord O my soul

O my soul

Worship His holy name

Sing like never before

O my soul

I’ll worship Your holy name

Responsive Reading:  medley of verses, Romans 4:5, 5:6-8 and Colossians

Romans 4:5 And to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness,

Romans 5:6-8 6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.

7 For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die—

8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

(God) forgave us all our trespasses, 14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands.

This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.

Jesus Paid It All with additional “oh praise the one” refrain led by the band.  It was written by Eliva Hall in 1865, with the refrain added more recently.

and when before thy throne,i stand in him complete

Jesus died my soul to save, my lips shall still repeat

Jesus paid it all, all to him i owe

sin hath left a crimson stain, he washed it white as snow

 repeated refrain

oh praise the one who paid my debt, and raised this life up from the dead

Offertory Song.  Whom Shall I Fear  by Joseph, Kaitlin and the band.

I know who goes before me

I know who stands behind

The God of angel armies is always by my side

The One who reigns forever

He is a friend of mine

The God of angel armies is always by my side

My strength is in Your name, For You alone can save

You will deliver me, Yours is the victory

Whom shall I fear? Whom shall I fear?

Kaitlin Hassel prays for the message.

Exodus 14-15     “The Great Escape” by Pastor Kevin

Lord’s Supper with The Power of the Cross” led by organ/piano Zach J & Laura Snow.  Two verses were sung with the distribution of each element.

Oh, to see my name

Written in the wounds,

For through Your suffering I am free.

Death is crushed to death;

Life is mine to live,

Won through Your selfless love.

This, the pow’r of the cross:

Christ became sin for us;

Took the blame, bore the wrath—

We stand forgiven at the cross.

Invitation Song  “The Power of the Cross”  led by Zach, Laura, and Ken Miller on Organ.
