Why We gather
We gather together weekly to hear the Word of Christ revealed in the scriptures and respond in worship and in love. These gatherings are characterized by a reverence for Christ and a joyful community of His people. While only part of a fuller life of discipleship to Christ, Sunday gatherings are a good picture of what we hope our lives resemble each day of the week.
We would love for you to join us in worship.
What to Expect
- What should I wear? There are no expectations for dress at Burton. Some dress formally, and some dress casually. Regardless of how you dress, don't come with a casual heart. Rather, come humbly and ready to have an encounter with God.
- What kind of music should I expect? We seek to worship God in spirit and in truth and that is the ultimate thing on Sunday mornings. There is an eclectic mix of instruments: organ, piano, guitar, cello, etc, and songs: old and new hymns, modern songs.
- Where will my children be during morning worship? We have a nursery for the little ones (0-3). Young children (4-7) will be in worship with their parents during the singing and then will be dismissed for Children's church before the sermon. Older children will remain in the sanctuary. We have worship bags for children that remain in the service. The bags include crayons and worksheet that focus on a particular theme.
- How often do you do the Lord's Supper? We receive the Lord's Supper once a month. We encourage people to receive it thoughtfully.
- What is the preaching like? We typically preach through books of the Bible on Sunday mornings. Sermons are almost always expositional; which means that the point of the sermon is the point of the text. We try to elevate God's Word and use it to challenge our assumptions and traditions. We need to hear what God has to say to us and we strive to be faithful in explaining God's Word in worship.
